Product details

Prepare fruit platters, fruit salads and dessert garnishes with a stainless steel melon baller. Choose a small scoop, a large scoop or a push-release style to suit the way you like to serve soft fruit.

Use it with watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew or dragon fruit. The cream-coloured handle has a hanging hole for storage, while the rounded scoop head shapes portions directly from the fruit flesh.

Choose your melon baller

Style Measurements When to choose it
Small – 2.7 cm Approx. 2.7 cm bowl width; 20.0 cm overall length Smaller fruit portions for salads and garnishes
Large – 3.1 cm Approx. 3.1 cm bowl width; 20.8 cm overall length Larger fruit portions for platters and dessert bowls
Push-Release See the release-mechanism photograph; dimensions are not supplied A scoop with a press-operated release control for serving soft fruit or softened ice cream

Sold individually: select one style. Comparison photographs show more than one tool to explain the options; this listing is not a three-piece set. Measurements are approximate, based on the supplier's size image. Bowl width is not a guarantee of the finished fruit-ball size.

How to use a melon baller

  1. Cut the fruit open and remove any seeds or rind that would obstruct the scoop.
  2. Press the bowl into the fruit flesh and rotate to shape a rounded portion.
  3. Lift and serve. On the push-release style, operate the release control over your serving dish.

Choose ripe fruit that holds its shape. Very soft fruit can collapse, while firm or fibrous flesh may be harder to scoop. Results depend on the fruit and technique; perfectly identical spheres are not guaranteed.

For fruit platters, picnics and summer desserts

Combine watermelon and rockmelon portions for a colourful sharing platter, add dragon fruit to a fruit salad, or prepare a garnish for a dessert bowl. Do the preparation in your kitchen rather than trying to cut and scoop fruit on a picnic rug.

Common questions

Is a melon baller the same as a fruit scoop?

A melon baller is a rounded fruit scoop used to shape small portions from melon and other suitable soft fruit. The two fixed-bowl styles differ in bowl width; the push-release style adds a release mechanism.

Can it scoop ice cream?

The supplier photographs show ice cream use. Let firm ice cream soften enough to scoop without force. Do not use the tool to chip through frozen-hard desserts or ice.

Which size should I choose?

Choose the 2.7 cm bowl for smaller portions or the 3.1 cm bowl for larger ones. Choose Push-Release if a release control matters more to you than the listed fixed-bowl sizes. Do not assume the push-release style has the same measurements as either fixed scoop.

How should I clean it?

Wash with warm soapy water after use, rinse thoroughly and dry. Clean carefully around the release mechanism where fitted. Avoid abrasive scourers. Dishwasher suitability has not been confirmed, so hand-washing is recommended.
